Moustiers-Ste-Marie first became famous in 1672 on account of its ceramic crockery. This came about due to a decision by King Louis XIV to confiscate all gold and silver crockery to improve the state's finances. Items from this period can be found in the Musée de Faiences (Wed-Mon Apr. – Oct. 09.00 – 12.00, 14.00 – 18.00, July/Aug. up to 19.00).
The church of Notre Dame and the chapel of Notre Dame de Beauvoir are built in the romanesque-gothic style. From here there is a wonderful view over the town and the valley.
However, the real emblem of Moustiers-Ste-Marie is the iron chain with star, which is fastened in place above the village between two rocks. It is said to recall the silver chain donated by a knight after his release from a long period of captivity.
