The small village of Roquebrune was named after the reddish brown rock on which it was built. The tiny settlement used to belong to the Grimaldi family and thus to Monaco. It did not become part of France until 1860.
From the 13th century castle there is a magnificent view over Monaco and Menton all the way to Italy.
