Sarzana
Sarzana is a small ligurian town on the river Magra. The urban picture is dominated by two fortresses.
On the one hand, the Fortezza Castruccio Castracani, which was built among others by Matteo Civitali, towers above, and on the other hand the Firmafede (also called the Citadel) is in the center of town.
The Santa Maria Assunta cathedral, which was built in 1474 and stands shiny with its Gothik gate of white marble, is particularly worth seeing.
Apart from some churches, Sarzana also offers many Palazzos, such as the Neri Palazzo or the Magni-Griffi Palazzo,. The Ollandini Villa which used to belong to the Genoese Ollandini family lies not far away. An impressive park forms part of the lovely property even today.
